PHI PSI RUSH
What it means to "Go Greek"
You may have some preconceptions of fraternities or sororities from popular movies or recent news events. These stereotypes make for good entertainment or on the flip side – give rise to real and legitimate concerns. This being said, the reality is that the vast majority of Greek fraternities and sororities today are reputable organizations that offer fellowship, academic support, leadership training, and participation in campus activities and philanthropy in the community.
Is "Going Greek" right for you? How should you decide
Most fraternities and sororities gain new members by a process called “rush” – a meet and greet whirlwind of a week that’s sort of like speed dating where neither party really gets a chance to know the other. At Phi Kappa Psi, we prefer not to use the word “rush,” exclusively because we don’t feel anyone should be rushed into a decision that’s this important. After all, joining a fraternity is a lifelong commitment.
Our recruitment process usually begins by receiving referrals from Phi Kappa Psi brothers, campus leaders and alumni who personally can recommend young men with integrity. Unlike traditional “rush” which takes place two weeks out of the year, we are constantly on the lookout for standouts all year long. We seek out scholars, future business leaders, service-minded individuals, athletes, many different kinds of campus leaders, and all-around gentlemen. Once we find guys who are the real deal, we simply hand out information and tell our story. We ask him a lot of questions about what he wants in life and where he’s going. If it feels right for both of us, we start a friendship that may very well end up in being brothers for life.

Life at 1200 North Jordan
We are a mission, vision and values driven fraternal organization. Most likely, many of the values we hold true – values such as academic achievement, positive relationship building, leadership development, community service already having been emphasized within your family at home. Joining the Indiana Beta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi will reinforce these values and ensure an enriched and highly rewarding overall college experience filled with friendships that will last a lifetime.
Excellence in academics is our top priority for all undergraduate members. In fact, our commitment to academics begins at the recruitment stage by talking to young men with GPAs high above the campus average. And once these intelligent men are in the chapter, we make sure they have an environment conducive to studying and learning. By providing clean, quiet areas, the Indiana Beta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi works diligently to develop consistent and efficient study habits. And to keep everyone on track, each chapter has a scholarship chairman and an academic adviser who oversee and maintain scholastic integrity.
Phi Kappa Psi creates a positive and encouraging culture that empowers each brother to tap into his inner greatness and reach a higher potential than one might be able to reach on his own.
Keeping Brothers Healthy & Safe
Indiana Beta and Phi Kappa Psi overall is committed to continuing its leadership role in higher education when addressing the widespread challenges of campus health and safety. Creating safe environments for our undergraduate students is, and has been for many years, a top priority for the Fraternity.
While Phi Kappa Psi has strict risk management policies, this is only the foundation for risk prevention. We provide policies, oversight and comprehensive training for undergraduate Brothers annually focused on preventing risk-related situations and incidents. We provide for anti-hazing training, alcohol and substance abuse awareness and sexual/personal harassment training and assistance – teaching individuals to intervene and/or report incidents when necessary.
We are engaged with a support system on a regular basis that works with our chapter (chapter advisors, university counselors, and parents) – to keep the undergraduates as safe and healthy as possible.
Like any fraternity or organization that works directly with young adults, Indiana Beta and Phi Kappa Psi is not immune to accidents or individuals with bad intent, but we remain vigilant in our strategies and are swift to act when individuals and chapters divert from our expectations.
Phi Kappa Psi knows that to deter bad behavior in a group setting, an environment must be created that encourages individuals to speak up without hesitation when they see something that isn’t right. Parents appreciate that we instill in every brother the concept of accountability for every action. If accountability falls through, we will take action.
The Fraternity’s Culture of Care program and related risk management policies help to create this environment.
Have a Question or Concern?
As we aim to provide our members with a safe and positive fraternal experience, we understand that there are cultures at every college campus working against us. The Indiana Beta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi takes great pride in our history and mission – all built around the foundational principles of both brotherhood and “The Great Joy of Serving Others.”
